| Aug 23 The Georgia Academy for Economic Development |
The Georgia Academy for Economic Development was started in 1993 by a consortium of public and private organizations involved in economic development. The program is designed to enhance community leaders’ skills and knowledge so that more communities in Georgia may remain or become successful. Over 5000 Georgians have graduated from this program, which is supported by over twenty statewide organizations, with facilitators, coordinators and program management provided by Georgia EMC, Georgia Power, and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. This four-day course is offered each fall in Region 7
AN OVERVIEW OF THE CURRICULUM
- Modules to enhance leadership skills
- Modules to enhance community development knowledge
- Modules to enhance economic development knowledge
REGIONAL PROGRAM INFORMATION:
Four Sessions – One day each in four months. All classes are held at the Thomson Depot from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuition is $225, which covers class materials, meals and breaks for 4 days.

“Building the Future of Nuclear Power in America”
Speaker: Mark Rauckhorst, Executive Vice President Vogtle 3&4 Construction
Great progress continues on one of the first new nuclear plants in the United States in more than three decades – a facility that will deliver more affordable and reliable energy for customers for generations to come. The Vogtle project is the state's largest job-producing construction project with more than 6,000 construction workers onsite and 800 permanent jobs expected once the new units begin operation. Once all four units are online, Plant Vogtle is expected to generate more electricity than any other U.S. nuclear facility, enough to power more than one million homes and businesses.
